Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to fast prior to my blood work? It depends on what the physician ordered. Usually the physician will explain how long he/she wants you to be fasting prior to your draw. During your fast, you may only drink water. Tests that typically require fasting are the lipid profile (cholesterol) and glucose (blood sugar).
Can I get my results? Yes, but only if you sign a release. Laboratory personnel can give you a release form to sign before you leave the department. You may wait for your results or pick them up at your convenience. All results must be obtained from the Medical Records Department. Some results may not be available for 48-72 hours after collection. For your protection, we are not permitted to give results out over the phone. You may download and print a copy of the Release of Information here
Will the results be sent to my physician? Physicians who are on staff at SWRMC receive a copy of your results in their office. Results for all other physicians are sent to their designated location by fax and/or mail.
